In one paragraph
Six of the eight are the questions you would ask any supplier: ownership, fees, reporting, exit, the named person, and what they will not promise. Two are specific to multi-channel work: who owns each account, and how the channels share what they learn. That second one separates an agency from a set of invoices.
The eight
Who owns each account? Not one account. Every one: the ad account, the analytics property, the Business Profile, the domain, the hosting, the social pages. In multi-channel work the number of things that can end up in somebody else's name multiplies, and each one you do not own is history you lose when you leave.
How will the channels share what they learn? The specific version: will the search terms that convert in ads be used to decide which pages get written? If the answer is vague, you are buying separate services with one invoice.
What is the fee, and what is the spend? Two numbers. Ad budget goes to Google, not the agency, and some quotes bundle them so the management cost disappears.
What will I see every month, in one report? Enquiries by channel, not four reports each claiming success.
Which named person runs each channel? And whether it is the same person for all of them, which tells you how deep any of it goes.
What happens if we stop? Access removed, ownership retained by you, history intact, content yours.
What is the minimum term? Any answer is fine. It should be stated before you ask.
What will you not promise? Not a position, not a date, not a revenue figure, and not a cost per lead before any data exists.
Three answers that end it
Agency ownership of your ad account, analytics or Business Profile as a condition of the work. A guaranteed position or a guaranteed cost per lead quoted before a click has been bought. And a refusal to show you raw data about your own spend.
The multi-channel trap
An agency running four channels can always show you a chart going up. There is always one channel having a good month, and reporting by channel rather than by enquiry makes it easy to lead with that one. Ask for enquiries by channel in a single table, every month, and the picture stops being selective.
Applied to this publisher
SEO Agency Dublin publishes this and sells several of these channels. Every question above applies to it unchanged, and the network's evidence property records that its own company registration is still unfiled, which is exactly the kind of gap the ownership and verification questions are meant to surface.
